
Teoh Soo Huat, M.D., M.Med., CBC
Dr. Teoh Soo Huat, M.D., M.Med., a family physician and medical lecturer from Malaysia, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized fellowship training and education program in bariatric science, he was recently credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC).
Dr. Teoh earned his medical degree and family medicine postgraduate qualification from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has completed the World Obesity’s Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE) certification and obtained Obesity Canada’s Certified Bariatric Educator credential. In addition, Dr. Teoh is a SCOPE National Fellow, member of the SCOPE leadership program, and a fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Teoh serves as a family physician and medical lecturer in the Advanced Medical & Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia. In his clinical practice, he helps people living with obesity by providing them with evidence-based personalized obesity treatment to achieve the desired clinical outcomes. As a lecturer, Dr. Teoh coaches postgraduate research students in becoming competent, independent health researchers, particularly in the field of clinical obesity. He is leading two funded obesity-related research projects and has published several papers related to non-communicable diseases, including obesity.
Recognizing Dr. Teoh’s vast experience and stature as a family physician, educator and researcher, AABC awarded him a fellowship in their Bariatric Certification and Credentialing Program. His scholarship, professional acumen and commitment to obesity medicine further the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment and prevention of obesity, and related disorders.
