Michelle I. Maurer, M.S., LIMHP, CPC, a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner based in Omaha, Nebraska has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). Following the successful completion of a specialized education and training program in Bariatric Science, she was awarded the credential of Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).
She earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bellevue University and has been practicing as a clinical counselor for five years, with more than a decade of prior experience working with children and families.
Michelle’s professional clinical background encompasses extensive work providing in-home support and resources to families to improve functioning, enhance parenting skills, address behavioral challenges, and promote school attendance. She has also served as a clinical counselor at Boys Town’s Residential Treatment Center, delivering therapeutic services to youth with complex behavioral and emotional needs.
Currently, Michelle is a mental health and behavioral therapist for Boys Town’s pediatric weight management program, SPARK, where she integrates evidence-based interventions to support children and adolescents in achieving healthy goals. She also supports adolescents and teenagers seeking bariatric surgery, pre and post-surgery.
Her clinical training includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Interviewing.
To provide best practices, she recognized the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science, and pursued AABC Board Certification. Her certification as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC) will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
