Marypat S. Hughes, MS, RD, CD/N, a Nutritionist at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Bariatric Team at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in Bariatric Science, she was credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC) on May 16, 2013.

Marypat completed the New York Medical College Fellowship in Leadership Education for Neuro-Disabilities. Marypat has served as President of the Westchester Rockland Dietetic Association, Spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association and is a Sustainer for the Junior League on Hudson. She has also been the Catholic Chaplain for Maria Ferrari’s ICU Children’s Hospital.

Board Certified Bariatric Professionals are already licensed/certified health and education professionals. They include medical doctors, educators, psychologists, nurses, nutritionists and other disciplines that engage in research, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of obesities and related disorders.

The pandemic of obesity and the need for specialized Bariatric Science led to the development of AABC that now has a national and international fellowship.

Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors affirms that its follows have successfully completed all requisite training and education and must continue their specialized training and education to maintain Board Certification
