Kara Melgarejo, MA, LMFT, BCBC, a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in California, Colorado, Oregon, Florida, Idaho, and Iowa, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Kara earned her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University and is a Certified EMDR Therapist. She is a member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Kara holds the position of Regional Clinical Director at Cyti Psychological, where she also conducts bariatric evaluations and provides clinical support to individuals navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, ADHD, life challenges, and relationship difficulties.

Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led Kara to pursue certification with AABC, where she was awarded an academic scholarship for her clinical excellence and dedication to bariatric care. Her certification as a BCBC will help advance the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
