Kara Beth Joseph, LICSW, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker from Easthampton MA, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Kara earned her Master of Social Work Degree from Boston College and has more than 25 years of clinical experience in medical social work and therapy. She currently has a private practice in Massachusetts specializing in bariatric therapy, including pre-surgery psychological evaluations, support groups and individual therapy for those pre and post-surgery, in medical weight management programs, and/or making significant changes to support healthy and sustainable living— mind, body, and spirit.

Kara works with adults navigating health and aging-related changes, overeating, obesity and metabolic disease, size stigma/discrimination and body image concerns, life transitions, transfer addiction, shame/avoidance/weight regain cycle, and the importance of self-care. She is privileged to offer poetry therapy to her clients among other evidenced-based treatment modalities.

Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led her to pursue certification with AABC, where she was awarded an academic scholarship for her clinical excellence and dedication to bariatric care. Her certification as a BCBC will help advance the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
