Kaitlynn Murguia, LCPC, Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Kaitlynn Murguia, LCPC

Kaitlynn Murguia, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Before becoming a mental health professional, she served as a Nutritionist providing care in a residential treatment center. Recognizing the overlap between mental health
and nutrition led to her earning a master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a specialization in Addictions Counseling. Kaitlynn primarily works with individuals seeking to improve their relationships with themselves, their body, food, exercise, or with their loved ones. She has completed the Level 1 and Level 2 curriculum of the Gottman Method, which is a preferred, evidence-based approach to marriage and relationship counseling. Kaitlynn also works with survivors of various traumas, individuals with personality disorders, LGBTQ2S individuals, as well as adults with mood disorders or life transition concerns.

Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led to her fellowship with AABC. AABC awarded her an academic scholarship. Her unique professional training and
clinical experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
