Fran Duane, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Worker from Bryan, Texas, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).
Fran holds both a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has more than 30 years of experience in social work, psychotherapy, and behavioral health.
Currently, Fran owns and operates a private clinical practice in the Bryan–College Station area, where she provides in-person and online psychotherapy to adults (www.franduane.com). Her practice focuses on issues such as anxiety, depression, required surgical assessments and support for pre and post-bariatric surgery, caregiver support, fertility and fetal/infant loss, and grief support.
Fran is an active educator and speaker. She presented at the NASW-TX State Conference, the Texas Juvenile Law Conference and community events for teachers, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. She is a past President of the Brazos Valley Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, past Vice President of the Texas Democratic Women of the Brazos Valley, and a Legislative Volunteer with AARP specializing in healthcare policy. She served as a Trustee with the Bryan Independent School District and on the Texas HB 906 Collaborative Task Force on School Mental Health Services—the only past Texas School Board member on the task force.
Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led her to pursue a fellowship with AABC. AABC awarded her an academic scholarship for her excellence in bariatric care. Her certification as a BCBC as well as her professional and unique clinical training and experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders
