Dr. Yolanda King, a Licensed Professional Counselor from Americus, Georgia, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC).
Dr. King earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College, Master of Science in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Valdosta State University, and her Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) from California Southern University. In addition, she is an adjunct professor and certified school counselor in Georgia and holds several certifications in the mental health field. Dr. King is the author of Hip Hop Affirmations: Giving Life to Words – A Self-Care Nurturing Journal.
Dr. King is the CEO of Affirmative Transformation Services, a mental health counseling, coaching and consulting firm. Her doctoral research focused on the stigma of mental health treatment in the African American community.
Recognizing the profound stigma associated with obesity, the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led to her fellowship with AABC. AABC awarded her an academic scholarship. Her extensive professional training and clinical experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
