Dr. Mary Anne Gunter, PhD, LPC, LMFT, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist from Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in Bariatric Science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).
Dr. Gunter completed her training and education with a BA from Lyon College, a MS in Marriage Family Therapy from Harding University and a PhD in Marriage Family Therapy from University of Louisiana Monroe. She is a member of both Alpha Chi and Phi Kappa Phi National College Honor Societies and is a former psychiatric nurse and nurse case manager.
Dr. Gunter specializes in issues particular to women and to blended families, single parents and co-parenting, as well as pediatric and adult trauma, and conducted research with incarcerated women. She is an adjunct professor in the graduate counseling program of Grand Canyon University, and is a Certified Facilitator in various premarital and co-parenting curriculum programs, and is trained in grief counseling. She is the owner of a small private practice Sincera Wellness, LLC (www.sincerawellness.net).
In her current practice, Dr. Gunter, as a former bariatric patient herself, possesses a unique understanding and care for the deeply systemic bariatric experience and how it impacts healthcare and quality of life.
Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led to her training and certification with AABC. AABC awarded Dr. Gunter with an academic scholarship. Her unique professional training and clinical experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
