Ana R. Pierelli, MHS, RDN, LDN a Registered and Licensed Dietitian in Maryland has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in Bariatric Science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).
Ana completed a combined didactic Master of Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She also completed a post-graduate specialized program developed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and was credentialed as a: Board Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM).
Ana has over 15 years of experience working in the field of nutrition and 12 years of experience working in the specialty of bariatrics and weight management. For the past 10 years, she has been practicing with Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic States Bariatric Surgery Program. As the Bariatric Program coordinator, she has managed all aspects of the Bariatric Program, including enriching program design and workflows, creating and improving program educational materials, managing clinic schedules and assigning coverage to ensure patient access, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and departments, providing the highest quality, empathetic, evidenced-based patient care, assisting with preparedness for the Center of Excellence site visits, and serving as a subject expert for the creation of a Kaiser Permanente’s new regional Center for Weight Management and Healthy Lifestyles.
Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led to her fellowship with AABC. AABC awarded her an academic scholarship. Her extensive professional training and clinical experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
