Rupa Lakshmikanthan, MS, RD, CNSC

Rupa Lakshmikanthan, a Registered Dietitian, licensed in the state of New Jersey, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Rupa received her Master’s Degree in Food Service Management and Dietetics in India. After immigrating to the US, she completed an additional Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Master’s Degree at Northeastern University in Boston. To better serve patients and provide best practices she continued her professional education and was credentialed as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC).

Rupa has more than 22 years of inpatient care and treatment. Currently, at Cooper University Hospital she provides comprehensive counseling for bariatric patients.

Recognizing the need for specialized training in bariatric science she completed a fellowship with AABC. Her extensive clinical background and commitment to bariatric care will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.

Albert Lichtenstein, PhD, LMFT, Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Albert Lichtenstein, PhD, LMFT

Albert Lichtenstein PhD, LMFT, Director of Behavioral Services at the Guthrie Clinic Weight Loss Center in Sayre, PA, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, he was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Dr. Lichtenstein received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Michigan State University. He has served as Director of Behavioral Services at the Guthrie Weight Loss Center for 12 years. Before that, Dr. Lichtenstein was the Behavioral Science Director at the Guthrie Family Medicine Residency. He is currently a Professor of Psychiatry at the Neuroscience Institute of the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. One of Dr. Lichtenstein’s main interests is in using the Balint Method to help physicians, and other healthcare providers, work through difficult relationships with their patients in order to provide compassionate care. He has been President of the American Balint Society and currently serves as General Secretary of the International Balint Federation. Recognizing the need for specialized training in Bariatric Science led to his fellowship with AABC.

Because of his commitment to bariatric care, AABC awarded him an academic scholarship. His extensive professional training and experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment, and prevention of obesity and related disorders.

Debbie Bright-Rahimi, MS, Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Debbie Bright-Rahimi, MS

Debbie Bright-Rahimi, a Counselling Psychologist, licensed in South Africa and the United Kingdom, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (BCBC).

Debbie attended the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and earned a Masters of Social Science, in Psychology. Debbie has 20 years of post-qualification experience and runs a busy private practice in Johannesburg, and online.

Her areas of interest include; Longer-term individual psychotherapy that fosters deeper self-awareness, empowerment, and actualization. Assisting people to understand and overcome compulsive behaviors, including support of bariatric patients and intensive relationship therapy interventions.

Debbie also owns an online psycho-educational platform called “The Shrink On Your Couch”. From this platform, she writes extensively about themes emerging from her relationship therapy and bariatric work. She produces ‘plug-and-play’ online self-help programs, and also provides group coaching. Her flagship offerings are “Relationship Rehab” and “Bariatric Mind Masters”.
