Ng KarFoo, First Malaysian Dietitian Awarded Bariatric Board Certification

Ng KarFoo, a clinical dietitian from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has been awarded Bariatric Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized fellowship training program in bariatric science, he was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC). He is the first health professional from Malaysia awarded this specialized certification.
He received his Nutrition and Dietetics training at the International Medical University, Malaysia. For the past ten years he has been a practicing dietitian serving many populations in various settings. This includes providing nutrition services in State general hospitals, University Medical Centre, private clinics, and corporate wellness programs. Currently NG KarFoo is practising at CENGILD G.I. Medical Centre where he specializes medical nutrition therapy for gastrointestinal and liver diseases as well as obesities, including bariatric surgery.

He is a SCOPE-certified health professional in obesity management (conferred by World Obesity Federation), a certified bariatric educator (conferred by Obesity Canada) and a fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. He aims to offer sensible, sustainable and attainable therapeutic lifestyle solutions to people struggling with obesities and their comorbidities.

Ng KarFoo is very active in the professional health community. Steering Committee Member of Malaysia’s National Nutrition Month 2018-2020, the subcommittee leader responsible for IT & Resources in Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA) and had served as a MDA Council Member. He received the Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award by Malaysian Dietitians’ Association in 2017.

Recognizing his vast clinical experience, professional stature, and commitment to health education, AABC awarded him a fellowship scholarship in their Bariatric Certification and Credentialing Program. His scholarship, professional acumen and commitment to public health will further the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment and prevention of obesity, and related disorders.
