Dr. Julie Oliveira-Payton, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker from Honolulu, Hawaii, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric
Counselors, (AABC). After completing a specialized fellowship training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC). She is the first from Hawaii to attain this certification.
Dr. Julie Oliveira-Payton earned her Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California, along with Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Social Work from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
She is the supervisor for the Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Bariatric Clinical Services. Under her guidance and leadership, the Bariatric Surgery Department has been awarded Bariatric Surgery Comprehensive Center Accreditations for three successive term cycles. In addition to leading the bariatric surgery multi-disciplinary team, she continues to specialize in bariatric surgery assessment and counseling for the past 12 years.
Recognizing her exemplary leadership and bariatric medicine clinical experience, AABC awarded her a fellowship scholarship. Her professional stature, public health accomplishments and clinical experience will help fulfill the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment and prevention of obesity and related disorders.
