Sheryl Phillips, Director of Standards and Compliance for the American Association of Bariatric Counselors, is pleased to announce the appointment of Nashaat Tawfik, MBA, B.Sc. Pharmacy, CBE, to their Centers of Therapeutic Excellence (COTE) Advisory Board.

Currently, Mr. Tawfik serves as the Obesity Business Director for Novo Nordisk in Saudi Arabia. Previously at Novartis Pharma he headed up the Cardio Metabolic Business Unit in Saudi Arabia. As an educator he continues to conduct obesity/diabesity training for health professionals and develop community public health programs.

Director Phillips stated, “Because of Mr. Tawfik’s organizational business acumen combined with his commitment to public health education, he is ideally suited to collaborate with COTE and join our specialized advisory board.

Renetta Weaver, LCSW, Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Renetta Weaver, LCSW, CBC

Renetta Weaver, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Maryland has been awarded National Bariatric Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized fellowship training and education program in bariatric science she was recently credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC).

She completed her Social Work graduate training at the University of Maryland and has earned a Ph.D. in Metaphysical Science from The Anu Practice, Accredited by the Board of Metaphysics. In addition, Dr. Weaver has co-authored two anthologies: Black Therapists Rock-A Glimpse Through the Eyes of Experts and Unchain Me Mama; The Forgiveness Factor.

After many years of struggling with her physical and emotional weight problems she has come to realize that it takes longer to lose the emotional weight than it does to lose the scale weight.

She practices in both Maryland and Washington, DC. The scope of her practice is to provide continuing education to for health professionals as well as provide therapeutic support for bariatric patients.

To provide the most current techniques and best clinical practices in bariatric science, she recently completed a post-graduate fellowship with the American Association of Bariatric Counselors and has been credentialed as a Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC). Her scholarship, clinical training and commitment and dedication to community public health will further the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care and treatment of those suffering from obesity and related disorders.

Jessica Genel, MS, RD, Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Jessica Genel MS, RD CBC

Jessica Genel MS, RD, a Registered Dietitian from San Diego, California, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized fellowship training and education program in bariatric science, she was recently credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC).

Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree in nutrition at Guadalajara University in Mexico and then received a scholarship from McGill University in Montreal, Canada; where she received a master’s degree in human nutrition.  Her professional education and interest in food, nutrition and culture took her from Mexico to Canada, Australia and then to the US.

Currently she counsels patients preparing for bariatric surgery at the Sharp Memorial Hospital, Bariatric Surgery Department in San Diego CA. Post-surgery she continues to support patients transition through significant behavioral, nutritional and lifestyle changes.

Recognizing Jessica’s scholarship and vast nutrition and cultural experience, AABC awarded her a fellowship scholarship in their Bariatric Certification and Credentialing Program. Her worldview, clinical acumen and commitment to bariatric patients furthers the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care, treatment and prevention of obesity, and related disorders.
