New Year 2020 Scholarship Endowment Funding Availability

The American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC) announced New Year 2020 Scholarship Endowment Funding is now available.

To meet the growing demand for Bariatric Science Trained Health Professionals (Certified Bariatric Counselors and Certified Bariatric Educators), AABC is offering Cycle 2 tuition free scholarship grants to new enrollments between January 1st and February 28, 2020. A $450.00 value. To qualify for a tuition free scholarship candidate must complete Cycle 1 within one year and be in good standing.

The endowment provides scholarship funding for health professionals from both the physical and social sciences. The Board Certification and Credentialing Program is offered online in two cycles. There are two required courses in each cycle. The New Year scholarship award underwrites the tuition for the second cycle of courses.

All online courses are self-paced. These are graduate level courses and each course takes about 30 hours to complete.

AABC is a Continuing Professional Education Accredited Provider for the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as well as the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Dr. James Hierro Awarded National Bariatric Board Certification

Dr James Hierro CBC

James Hierro, a medical doctor, located in New York City, has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). After completing a specialized training and education program in bariatric science he was recently credentialed as a Board-Certified Bariatric Counselor (CBC).

Dr Hierro is the founder and CEO of Quisqueya Community Care Center, Inc (QCCC). This community health center in Bronx, NY, has focus on the complex biopsychosocial problems of obesity and provides a variety of workshops and programs for children, teenagers and adults. QCCC Inc., targets demographic groups that have above average diabetes and obesity risks and hosts forums that address public health equity concerns. 

Dr. Hierro earned his medical degree at Nordestana Catholic University, in the Dominican Republic and has recently completed his post–graduate fellowship with the American Association of Bariatric Counselors (AABC). 

His scholarship, clinical experience, commitment and dedication to community public health will further the AABC global mission of providing best practices in the care and treatment of those suffering from obesity and related disorders.
