Ashley Lewis, MPH, CBE, a health educator from Tuscaloosa, Alabama has been awarded National Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors and Educators. After completing a specialized training and education program she was credentialed as a Board Certified Bariatric Educator (CBE) in June of 2015.
Ms. Lewis received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Spellman College and a Master’s Degree in Health Behavior from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently employed as a Community Health Educator for MedNet West, Inc., which is a nonprofit organization located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that specializes in care coordination for the Patient First Medicaid population. At MedNet West Inc., she developed an obesity intervention program for adolescents and their parents.
Now as a credentialed Certified Bariatric Health Educator she plans to develop more effective programs for the adults of the community that she serves. She stated, “I am eager to take my bariatric specialty training and create tools and interventions that will improve the health and wellness of this community.”
Board Certified Bariatric Professionals are already licensed/certified health and education professionals. They include medical doctors, professional educators, mental health professionals, nurses, nutritionists and other related disciplines that engage in research, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of obesities and related disorders.
Board Certification by the American Association of Bariatric Counselors and Educators affirms that their fellows have successfully completed all requisite training and education. They must continue their specialized training and education to maintain Board Certification.
